Haikus

by Rafer Nelsen

I

Seattle rises

Like blue-gray slate from the sound.

Melancholia.

II

Labia of love

A ripe peach to sink your teeth

Into life itself

III

The rain falls gently.

The mountains don't sleep alone.

And neither shall we.

IV

I love the Haiku.

It reads, "Stay cool and don't change."

Please sign my yearbook.

V

The space station flies

Overhead out of the west.

Venus shines brighter.

VI

Did this quietly

With friends, and champagne, and hash

Brownies and whipped cream.

VII

There were oysters and

Octopi, avocado

Dip and celery

VIII

Lotus root is fine.

Some think the moon is finer.

It has holes as well.
